7300 researchers to take part in 67 new MSCA-RISE projects

Some 7300 research staff will be funded by Horizon 2020 through 67 new projects under the Marie Skłodowska-Curie Research and Innovation Staff Exchange (MSCA-RISE) action.

The €74 million budget available this year will fund 801 organisations (including 103 SMEs and 246 organisations from third countries) involved in research and innovation activities. These organisations will receive funding for 7,292 staff exchanges in all scientific domains.

Researchers at doctoral and post-doctoral level, as well as technicians, managerial and administrative staff will be involved in these exchanges, which promote cross-border and cross-sector collaboration, through sharing knowledge and ideas within Europe and beyond.

Examples of funded projects

In the field of cultural heritage, TECTONIC will promote the collaboration between academic and non-academic professionals working in different topics related to underwater cultural heritage. The overall aim is the exchange of skills and expertise, participation in training activities, and the development of solutions and marketable products for the conservation, restoration and management of the UCH, such as objects, artefacts, structures, remains etc.

RECYCLE is an environment project that will develop a new technology to trap the used pesticide components and reuse them for agricultural purposes. RECYCLE will build on a strong collaboration through secondments between world-leading teams encompassing academic and private sectors, both within and outside the EU. RECYCLE will involve various stakeholder groups to ensure that the knowledge is successfully implemented on the ground.

The physics project N-Light aims at providing breakthrough theoretical and experimental advances for virtual computational design and practical realisation of novel gamma-ray light sources. This interdisciplinary research programme will combine theory, computational modelling and design with technological and experimental developments.

The Research Executive Agency will manage the 67 selected projects, which will run for four years.
