Marjana Rupnik

After graduating from the Faculty of Arts at the University of Ljubljana and complementing this with conference interpreting studies at the IÜD in Heidelberg, MR worked for more than a decade as a freelance translator, interpreter, TV presenter and moderator. Between 2002 and 2004, she taught conference interpreting at the University of Ljubljana, an experience found particularly rewarding. Around that time, Marjana joined DG SCIC, the European Commission’s interpretation service, as a pre-accession coordinator and interpretation trainer.

Since 2004, she has held a range of roles within DG SCIC, progressing from interpreter to Presidency Coordinator and later serving for more than ten years as Head of the Slovene Unit. In 2022, Marjana was appointed Head of Department II in Directorate A (Interpreters). In this role, within the interpreters’ directorate, she is responsible for multiple horizontal files, with a strong focus on digital and AI-related matters from a strategic point of view.

Technological development has always driven Marjana’s curiosity, together with questions about what the future will bring and how best to prepare for it responsibly. In the field of AI, Marjana’s work focuses on making these developments tangible and useful for interpreters through hands-on formats. This includes designing peer training on meeting preparation with AI and exploring what the booth of the future and the service offer of the future could look like.
