Marie Muttilainen

Marie Muttilainen has been the Director for Interpretation of the Court of Justice of the European Union since 1 August 2016. 

Having obtained her Master’s degree in translation and interpretation at the University of Turku, she worked as an interpreter and translator for Finland’s public administration in the early 1990s. In that capacity, she took part in the negotiations for her country’s accession to the European Communities. After two years at the Ministry of Justice (1992-1994), she joined the interpretation service of the Court of Justice in November 1994. She was first a conference interpreter in the Finnish booth and then a Head of Unit responsible for seven booths (2007-2016). She also holds a Master’s degree in European law awarded by the University of Thessaloniki and University of Nancy II (1999).
