Biography

Marie-Antoinette Maupertuis is the President of the Corsican Assembly in France, where she oversees parliamentary proceedings, chairs the Permanent Commission and the Conference of Presidents. In this role, she represents both the Assembly and the Collectivity of Corsica at public events and official functions.

Her European engagement has been longstanding. She was an advisor to MEP Max Simeoni and has been a key figure in the EU’s Committee of the Regions (CoR) since 2016. Currently, she serves as President of the European Alliance group within the CoR, where she has been instrumental in shaping policy recommendations, including the first CoR opinion on the post-2027 Multiannual Financial Framework and the implementation of place-based EU policies.

She also serves as Vice-President of the Commission for Territorial Cohesion (COTER), covering critical areas such as EU cohesion policy, territorial cooperation, transport networks, urban policy, and regional development financing. Additionally, she is Vice-President of the Mission Opérationnelle Transfrontalière (MOT), focusing on maritime cooperation. 

Prior to her election as President of the Corsican Assembly, she served on the Executive Council of Corsica (2015-2021), where she was responsible for European and international affairs, public innovation policy, and smart specialisation strategy. She also chaired the Corsican Tourism Agency, contributing to the island’s strategic economic positioning.

A distinguished economist, Marie-Antoinette Maupertuis was awarded the First Prize in Regional Economics from the Faculty of Applied Economics at Aix-Marseille University and received a doctoral thesis award from Sophia Antipolis University. She has served as a Professor of Economics at the University of Corsica, where she led the CNRS Research Unit "Lieux, Identités, eSpaces et Activités" (LISA) until 2020. She has also been a member of the university’s Scientific Council, the French National Committee for Scientific Research (CNRS), the National Council of Universities (CNU), and the Doctoral School Board.
