Manuela Brovarone

Manuela Brovarone has more than 20 years of experience at the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Interpretation (SCIC), where she has worked as an interpreter, trainer and manager. Before joining SCIC, she was a freelance interpreter, translator and media analyst.

At SCIC, she has held several coordination roles, including for the Italian Presidency of the Council and in preparing for future EU enlargements, supporting the training of linguists in acceding countries. She is currently Head of the SCIC Talent Development Unit, leading initiatives to help interpreters develop their professional skills, namely for language coverage, meeting terminology, uptake of digital and AI tools. She also manages succession planning activities and support to the training of for future conference interpreters, with a programme of pedagogical and financial initiatives for universities and students. She has contributed to the digital transformation of interpreter training through virtual classes, e-learning modules for trainers and further enhancement of SCIC’s Speech Repository, the dedicated speech bank to prepare for accreditation tests.
