EU Correspondent based in Brussels since September 2021. Manuel has been working for El País his entire career, especially in the main newsroom in Madrid and focus on economics topics. Between 2008 and 2021 he covered all the information on the Spanish labor market and the public pension system: labor and social security reforms, trade unions, employers' organizations, social dialogue. He reported on the collapse of employment in Spain during the financial crisis and some of the subsequent cuts. Manuel also followed the collapse, again, of employment during the pandemic and the early stages of its rapid recovery. Manuel studied History at the Universitat de València and, afterwards, the Journalism Master UAM/EL PAÍS. Since the beginning of his career, Manuel has been writing about Economics affairs, so this is his real experience. Accordingly, as EU Correspondent Manuel’s attention is mainly focused on the economic affairs of the European Union, including, of course, the EU budget.
