Outlook

In 2022, the Commission will continue important implementation work in the area of health and food safety.

The Commission will:

  • guide and support Member States in the correct transposition and implementation of the Directive on the manufacture, presentation and sale of tobacco and related products (Directive 2014/40/EU) with further bilateral meeting planned, and of the directive on the application of patients’ rights in cross-border healthcare (Directive 2011/24/EU) by continuing bi-lateral dialogues with several Member States and stepping up investigations into national practices with the view to reducing administrative burden to patients for cross-border healthcare;
  • continue to carry out audits as a key tool in enforcing EU rules on food and feed safety, animal health, plant health and animal welfare. 281 controls are planned for 2022 with the majority in the food domain
