Kilian G. Seeber

Kilian G. Seeber is Professor at the University of Geneva’s Faculty of Translation and Interpreting, where he serves as Vice Dean and Program Director of the Master of Advanced Studies in Interpreter Training. He is the principal investigator at LaborInt, the Faculty’s experimental laboratory for complex language processing.

Kilian earned his undergraduate and graduate degree in translation and interpreting at the University of Vienna, his post-graduate and doctoral degree in interpreting at the University of Geneva before completing his post-doctoral work in psycholinguistics at the University of York. To this day, Kilian is a practicing conference interpreter accredited to the European Union and the European Patent Office.

Kilian’s name as an internationally renowned scholar is inextricably linked to the notion of cognitive load in interpreting. His theoretical and experimental work has shaped the way in which the field conceives of multilingual multimodal processing; his Cognitive Load Model of has been widely used to conceptualize cognitive processes underpinning simultaneous interpreting. Known for his ability engage his audience by making complex issues accessible to students and professionals alike, Kilian is a regular keynote speaker at some of the most important international events revolving around multilingualism.
