Biography

Hon. Stanslaus Haroon Nyongo is the Deputy Minister of State in the President’s Office for Planning and Investment and Member of Parliament for Maswa East, United Republic of Tanzania. A committed member of the ruling party Chama cha Mapinduzi (CCM), Hon. Nyongo has held multiple leadership roles focused on advancing governance, economic development, and public welfare in Tanzania.

Before assuming his current ministerial post in June 2024, Hon. Nyongo served as Deputy Minister for Minerals from 2017 to 2020, where he significantly increased government revenue from the mineral sector, from 196 billion TZS to 545 billion TZS, through strategic leadership. During this time, he championed the establishment of mineral markets across the country, promoting transparency and efficiency for artisanal miners and traders.

Between 2010 and 2015, he worked as Country Representative and Manager for Dafra Pharma of Belgium, following a decade-long tenure as a Medical Representative at the same company. He began his professional journey as a Medical Officer at Muzdalifar Dispensary in 2000.

As a parliamentarian since 2015, Hon. Nyongo has served on several influential parliamentary committees. These include his roles as Chairman of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Health, HIV, and AIDS (2023–2024); Chairman of the Service, Social, and Community Development Standing Committee (2020–2023); and Chairman of the Standing Committee on Trade, Industries, and Environment (2016–2017). He is also a current member of the National Vision 2050 Preparation Committee under the President’s Office.

Hon. Nyongo is widely recognized for his advocacy and policy work. He was instrumental in initiating and amending the Universal Health Insurance Bill, which led to the creation of a unified health services system. He has also contributed to improving Tanzania’s business environment by advising on regulatory streamlining for both local and international investors.

He holds a Master’s and Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from the University of Dar es Salaam (2010–2015 and 2006–2009, respectively), a Diploma in Clinical Medicine from Mkomaindo COTC (1999–2000), and a Certificate in Clinical Medicine from Songea CATC (1995–1998). Hon. Nyongo is fluent in both English and Kiswahili.
