Gry Hasselbalch is an author and scholar specializing in data and AI ethics, human rights, and the politics of technology. With 20 years of experience, she has actively shaped global debates on internet governance, digitalization, and the ethical implications of AI. Her career spans policy, academia, and public speaking, all driven by a commitment to fostering a more responsible tech landscape.As a member of the EU High-Level Expert Group on AI (2018–2020), she contributed to the development of the EU's AI ethics guidelines. She later led international outreach as the Senior Key Expert for the EU’s Human-Centric Approach to AI initiative, advancing global AI diplomacy. She also co-founded DataEthics.eu, a think tank advocating for ethical, human rights-based data practices, which was honored with the Libre Prize’s Honorary Award in 2024.Currently, she serves as the Director of Academic Research at DataEthics.eu. She holds a PhD in data and AI ethics and power and is the author of several influential books, including Human Power – Seven Traits for the Politics of the AI Machine Age (forthcoming), Data Ethics of Power (2021), and Data Ethics – The New Competitive Advantage (2016). She regularly speaks at major forums, championing a value-driven approach to AI.
