This TEW aims at increasing awareness and appreciation of languages among secondary school students and motivate them to choose languages and translation in particular as asubject for their university studies.
The first part will consist of short general presentations and panel discussions. The topics will include: translation and other linguistic professions, translation technologies , overview of skills needed, stressing the importance of learning languages, best translation and linguistic career examples, success stories, etc.

Elžbieta Banytė, influencer, gymnasium teacher, translator; ● Rimantas Kmyta, philologist, writer, the author of bestseller “Pietinia kronika” written in a local city dialect; ● Monika Marija Paulauskaite, young polyglot, singer, Lithuanian celebrity (tbc); ● Uosis Nojus Galkevičius, JT-2017 winner, currently the student of linguistics at Vilnius University; ● Vaidas Leliūga, Power Hit Radio DJ, traveller
After lunch participants will be invited to visit various linguistic and translation departments of the Faculty of Philology, where they will be able to acquire insight into the specificities and challenges of translation and linguistic professions, to meet the teachers and students, to try translation technologies and practices, such as using SDL Studio and neural MT, interpretation equipment and techniques etc.
