Frank Engels

Dr Frank Engels has been a member of the Executive Board of Union Asset Management Holding AG since July 2022. As Chief Investment Officer, he is responsible for securities portfolio management and the real estate fund business. Prior to that, Frank was Global Head of Fixed Income at DWS for six months. He already worked at Union Investment from 2012 to 2021, initially as Head of Fixed Income. In August 2014, he was appointed to the Management Board of Union Investment Privatfonds GmbH and also took over as Head of Multi Asset at the beginning of 2017. 

At the end of 2017, he became Head of Portfolio Management. In 2010 and 2011, Frank worked as Global Head of Asset Allocation Strategy and Co-Head of European Economics Research at Barclays Capital. As Head of Emerging Market Debt in the portfolio management team, he had already worked at Union Investment from 2008 to 2010.  Previously, he joined Thames River Capital LLP in 2004 as Investment Manager and Head of Strategy.

 From 1999 to 2004, he worked as Senior Economist at the European Central Bank and as Economist at the International Monetary Fund, after starting his professional career as Economist at Swiss Re in 1998. Frank studied economics at Johannes Gutenberg University in Mainz and earned his doctorate at WHU Otto Beisheim School of Management in Vallendar and Georgetown University in Washington, D.C.
