Elena Aguirre Fernández Bravo is a faculty member in the Department of Translation, Interpreting and Multilingual Communication at Universidad Pontificia Comillas (Madrid), where she also serves as Associate Vice Rector for Strategy, Internationalization and Academic Planning. A conference interpreter by training, with English, French and German as working languages, she directed the university's M.A. in Conference Interpreting from 2018 to 2024.
In her institutional role, she is involved in the design and implementation of the university's strategic agenda, working across academic planning, teaching innovation, and internationalization. Her research is rooted in the study of cognitive and metacognitive processes in interpreting and in interpreters' agency as mediators in political and institutional discourse. At the crossroads of interpreting research and university strategy, her current work explores how the language professions can shape — rather than merely adapt to — the integration of AI into multilingual communication.
