Towards an EU solar energy strategy

Accelerating renewable energy deployment plays a central role in the success of the European Green Deal.

EU Solar Strategy

Accelerating renewable energy deployment plays a central role in the success of the European Green Deal; it will also contribute to decreasing EU dependence on imported fossil fuels and to lowering energy prices. Solar energy’s contribution to this transition will need to grow significantly in order to power an integrated energy system, electrify end-use sectors and support the rollout of renewable hydrogen in hard-to-decarbonise sectors.

In the context of the preparation of a Communication on an EU solar strategy and the ongoing Open Public Consultation (until 12 April), this high-level event aims to provide a forum for an exchange of views between the main relevant stakeholders. The strategy will analyse the state of play of solar energy across the EU and propose measures to accelerate deployment of solar technologies.

The event starts with an opening session including a keynote speech from the Commissioner for energy, Kadri Simson, followed by 3 thematic roundtables on the below overarching questions, and a closing session

  • What demand measures can contribute to accelerate deployment?
  • Is the solar energy industrial landscape changing?
  • Towards a citizen-centred energy system based on solar?
  • 28 MARCH 2022
