The discussion tackled the topic of the vision of the founding fathers and how the coal and steel agreement layed the foundations of the current EU. The speakers mentioned the biggest achievements and assests that the EU brought us, such as the euro, the Schengen agreement, enlargement and opportunities.They talked about the upcoming difficulties and newly changed views after the coronavirus crisis, as well as how this will effect the EU and its priorities and what will the people expect from the EU for the future. They also looked into the future, discussing the upcoming Conference on the Future of Europe and how the upcoming economic crisis will effect the EU.The speakers expressed their beliefs that this will lead into new cooperation and better understanding of the competences of the EU versus the competences of the member states. As the final point, the speakers discussed how the Schuman declaration would look today, and what prioritites it would tackle. They agreed that these would be prioritites such as climate change and the European Green Deal.The event was a special edition of ongoing series of discussions organized by the EC REP in Slovakia under the well known header Café Európa. Due to the measures of the Slovak Public Health Authority, the event took place in a studio without live audience, and was livestreamed on social media.
