More and more countries understand that there is no other way. The green transformation that started in the EU will have an impact on their lives, too.
Commissioner Virginijus Sinkevičius
A highly engaging Dialogue with Commissioner Sinkevičius and Lithuanian stakeholders of the European Green Deal took place on 4 December 2020. The discussion revolved around industrial policies, agriculture, environment, consumer practices, financial support and other climate-related issues.
Many participants showed interest in how the Covid-19 pandemic could help the planet get greener, and how the current crisis could stimulate transformation. One participant asked if a small country like Lithuania could really make a significant change in protecting the environment and fighting climate change, if some of the largest countries in the world do not follow suit.
Participants also questioned the Commissioner on the impact assessment of the strategies proposed by the European Commission in the context of the European Green Deal and on what the EU is doing to promote sustainable transport. River pollution, especially coming from the Baltic Sea, was another topic addressed during the discussion.
Citizens’ quote: “Will Lithuanian winters return? Can we still expect to see snow?
