He added that the internal market has to be equipped with strong social standards in order to prevent social dumping.Given the crisis, the EU needs to strengthen its social dimension. For this reason, the Commission is opposing a postponement of the implementation of the directive on posted workers.Questions addressed the situation of companies that have had to fire some of its employees and the increase of unemployment benefits. The Commissioner reminded that the Commission has provided € 37b to support citizens and business in the Corona crisis, but it is for member states to swiftly channel the funds so that people can benefit.Moreover, he pointed to SURE, underlining that while it is a helpful instrument during the crisis, the EU also needs a long-term model for an unemployment insurance.
