Report
Digitalisation is essential for transportation to become more modern, profitable and safer, all the while ensuring the satisfaction of passengers.
Commissioner Adina Vălean
Commissioner for Transport, Adina Vălean, took part in an online Citizens’ Dialogue on 15 December that was split in two parts: a first live chat in English for a EU-wide audience, and a second one in Romanian to address more national issues.
Discussions focused on measures taken at the EU level so as to benefit passengers, regardless of the means of transportation. The key points of the Smart and Sustainable Mobility Strategy, as well as the essential role of digitalisation for the future of the transportation system were also in the limelight.
The audience raised concrete issues, which largely concerned the use of alternative sustainable fuels, road and aviation safety, the electrification of vehicles and bikes, as well as travel safety in the Covid-19 context.
One participant asked if the European Commission was considering creating an agency for road safety, as is already the case for aviation and maritime transportation. The future role of low-carbon and renewable liquid fuels in view of the new EU mobility strategy was also raised.
Again on the theme of travel, participants wanted to know “is ownership of cars out?” and “is travel in itself a risky during the Covid pandemic?”
Languages: English on DG MOVE’s twitter account, and for the second part, Romanian, broadcasted on the Bucharest Representation’s page.
