The atmosphere was very interactive and the young citizens demonstrated their involvement and interest in national and international politics. The young actively participated in the Sli.do polls and asked Vice President Šuica a wide range of questions, both directly and via Sli.do. The questions ranged from what concrete actions the EU is taking to tackle the migration crisis to how the EU can encourage people to stay in rural areas and thus reduce urban migration.Moroever, students underlined the fact that there is no planet B, sharing their concern about climate change and its impacts.Vice-President Šuica reassured the participants that the European Green Deal is the Commission’s first priority, but that it is impossible to change the world overnight. The main takeaways of this citizen’s dialogue however were that young people want their voices to be heard more by the EU and policymakers in general.Thus, they requested that the voting age in Luxembourg and other member states should be lowered from 18 to 16, and asked Vice-President Šuica that this issue should be discussed at the Conference on the Future of Europe. Moreover, students also asked that citizen’s initiatives should be empowered more and the the EU should be obliged to act on them.Overall, Vice-President Šuica carefully listened to the citizen’s concerns and was surprised by how interested in politics the young audience was.
