It was emphasised that the European Union citizens have a real impact on shaping the Community, the example being an opportunity of taking part in the upcoming European Parliament elections.The bodies of the European Union focus on many issues. The current examples include Brexit, copyright reform and environmental protection. The financial perspective for years 2021-2027 assumes increased expenditure of funds for the abatement of air pollution.It was emphasised that the smog problem affected Poland in particular and, therefore, local initiatives should be focused on measures applied to improve air quality. The participants had an opportunity to get to know what the Regional Operational Program was and learn about its importance as well as get acquainted with the examples of activities funded within its framework in Silesia.The significance of signalling local needs to EU bodies whose task is to consider the voice of the local community in creating the program framework for the forthcoming years was emphasised.The participants of the meeting wanted to learn more about the European Union programs addressed to older citizens in particular. They also asked how to effectively influence the natural environment by means of local initiatives.
