The stakeholder forum “Decarbonising Slovak economy” started with a high level panel featuring VP Sefcovic, State Secretaries of the Ministry of Environment and Economy and President of Eurofer A.Eggert.The main focus was on decarbonisation, the upcoming Green Deal and impacts on competitiveness of the EU economy.The second panel with President of Us Steel Kosice J. Bruno, Executive Director of OFZ, B. Klocok, M.Halama from the Technical University Kosice, D.Lesinsky, a well-known Slovak activist and L. Vasakova, Head of the Economic Analyses Section at the Representation of the European Commission in Slovakia was devoted to the decarbonisation of industry. J.Bruno highlighted that while the EU is pushing hard on decarbonisation, China is adding more new coal plants that we are offsetting. We need a balanced framework for our manufactorers involving also RD and innovation support.L. Vasakova spoke about the importance of climate action and presented various funding opportunities for industry. B. Klocok questionned the rationality of the EU approach and stressed that the focus should be not only on emmissions from production but also from consumption.
