And the young people in the studio promised to do just that! They all agreed that younger generations have to keep putting pressure on politicians, but that real change will require all generations to be involved. Especially, as Ana María said, increasing climate awareness on those who are taking decisions now. Topics discussed included the impact of agriculture, food production and trade on climate, the choices made by consumers, solutions like taxation and labelling, and forestation, with concrete proposals brought up by Rodrigo, while Víctor highlighted the role of technology in fighting climate change.Anuna urged the EU to be more ambitious: “Time is running out. We need stricter targets now.” Adélaïde agreed, saying that decisions taken by the EU will have an impact on how other countries decide. “We ask you to dare and be courageous”.Questions posed by citizens watching live via Facebook and LinkedIn were also discussed, notably the role of research and innovation in tackling the climate crisis. The EVP concluded by saying that the EU Climate Pact is the place where scientists, young people, activists and companies can be brought together. “I hope the Climate Pact also reaches out to people who are currently not convinced”, he said.
