Mrs. Vašková introduced the European Green Deal as the principal growth strategy introduced by the European Commission. She emphasized that renovations are important in the context of achieving carbon neutrality by 2050 and stressed that renovation rates at the level of 1% need to be increased. After that, Richard Paksi introduced the long-term strategy of buildings renovations.He pointed out that is necessary to accelerate building renewal since the present rate of the process in Slovakia is around 1%, while the desired rate is 3%. The second panel composed of politicians running for the upcoming General elections, i.e. Liliana Rástocká (Za ľudí), Caroline Líšková (KDH), Peter Ďurček (SNS), Dominik Hatiar (PS/SPOLU), Eduard Heger (OĽaNO) and Ladislav Matejka (SaS), continued with reflection on the importance of building renovations.Slovak political parties have reached an agreement on importance of renovations; they also agreed on the problem of fragmentation of the process which involves several actors in the process – Ministries of Transport, Finance, Economy and Environment and various offices and agencies. Líšková (Most-Híd) considered the present rate of building renewal as alarming and stated that renovations are important in the context of public health as well. She sees the huge deficiencies in the area of public buildings, which in her view should lead by example.Liliana Rástocká (Za ľudí) agreed with Mrs. Líšková on the exemplary role of public buildings. She underlined the importance of regions in Slovakia in the process, that should have their own plans and strategies for building renovations. Za ľudí intends to eliminate energy poverty and build 20 000 apartments complying with energy standards.Mr. Hatiar stated that electoral programme of PS/SPOLU is considered as the best in the area of climate and energy according to 8 NGOs. He sees the biggest potential to decrease emission in the buildings sector, which is responsible for around 36% of all Slovak emissions.As the main problem he considered the central planning and emphasized the importance of regional plans and the role of private sector in the process.Mr. Ďurček (SNS) considered the financing as the most problematic issue. He also added that the amendment of construction law is necessary.According to Mr. Matejka (SaS) a complex renovation is needed and should be well co-ordinated in order to avoid sunk investments in partial renovations. Heger (OĽaNO) emphasized the role of systemic planning and long-term planned budget as well as the role of RD.
