CloseThis event has been rescheduled. Diverse stakeholders in the audience will have an opportunity to learn and reflect on EU terminology and localisation of EU texts in the public domain, e.g. where and how it is created (‘Brussels’ or Slovakia?) and how media work with it in the rapid media environment. Turnout at EU election in Slovakia in 2019 (twice as high as at the previous elections but still the lowest across EU) serves as a proof of media’s important role in building up the positive image of EU among Slovaks. The target audience of this one-day-event will be: journalists, media experts, freelancers, EU translators, academia, terminologists, linguists, translation students. Topics that will be covered: Translating and localising press releases at the EC Directorate General for Translation; Translating EU news for Slovak media (Monika Himpánová, Jaroslav Bublinec, News Agency of the Slovak Republic); EU communication with the media (Peter Stano, Lead Spokesperson for foreign affairs and security policy in VP/High Representative Josep Borell Fontellesteam); Terminology presentation on cybersecurity (JUDr. René Baran, National Security Authority); Reflection of EU terminology in media –what are the pitfalls?; Language used in/by the media (round table discussions in small groups) Partners: Slovak Terminology Network (SK LD) Slovak Translation Unit, General Secretariat of the Council of the EU Online via ZOOM – registration required (closed on 20/2/2021) Also available as live streaming via YouTube Thursday 11 March 2021, 09:00 (CET)Bratislava, Slovakia Practical information WhenThursday 11 March 2021, 09:00 (CET)Where Bratislava, Slovakia Who should attendjournalists, media experts, freelancers, EU translators, academia, terminologists, linguists, and translation studentsLanguagesSlovakNumber of seats100Entrance feeUpon invitation Description Partners:Slovak Terminology Network (SK LD), Slovak Translation Unit, General Secretariat of the Council of the EU, Translation and Interpretation Departments of Comenius University in Bratislava (Saint Jerome Days) Slovak Association of Interpreters and TranslatorsEMT university involved: University in Nitra Contacts General contact DGT Slovakia Barbora TRICOIRE NameDGT SlovakiaEmaildgt-bratislavaec [dot] europa [dot] euPhone number+421 259203280Postal addressZastúpenie Európskej komisie v Slovenskej republike Palisády 29 811 06 Bratislava Slovakia Related links Translating Europe
