Cormac MacGabhna

Cormac MacGabhna completed a BA in International Modern Languages (German and Italian) at University College Dublin (UCD), after which they worked in Germany and Italy for several years before pursuing a Master’s in Translation Studies (Irish and German) at Dublin City University (DCU). They also obtained an Advanced Diploma in Legal Translation from the Honorable Society of the King’s Inns in Dublin and are due to graduate from the Diploma in Legal Studies in 2026.

Their primary fields are legal and medical translation. Over the course of their career, they have worked as a freelance translator, an in-house translator in the private sector, and currently as an in-house translator in the public sector. In May 2025, they began working with the Bundessprachenamt in Germany after spending four years with Apostroph Germany (now part of TransPerfect) in Bremen. They first began working as a freelance translator in 2020, shortly before starting their Master’s, and have continued freelancing alongside their primary employment, with at least half of their projects coming from European institutions.
