BiographyMEP Carla Tavares was elected in 2024 to the European Parliament, where she serves as member of the Committee on Budgets (BUDG) and of the Committee on Budgetary Control (CONT), as Chair of the S&D Working Group on Budgetary Control, and as a substitute member of the Committee on Economic and Monetary Affairs (ECON). She is currently the European Parliament Co-Rapporteur on the next Multiannual Financial Framework. Tavares is also Vice-Chair of the Delegation for relations with India and the Delegation to the Euronest Parliamentary Assembly, as well as member of the Delegation to the EU-Russia Parliamentary Cooperation Committee. Furthermore, she is a substitute member of the Committee on Development (DEVE) and the Committee on Women’s Rights and Gender Equality (FEMM). Before her tenure in the European Parliament, Tavares had a distinguished career in local governance. She served as the Mayor of Amadora from October 2013 to April 2024 and was the Deputy Mayor from December 2001 to October 2013.
