Description
The European Commission will require external assistance in order to carry out a study on lessons from the US for the functioning of economic and monetary union (EMU).
The principal aim of the study is to identify the lessons that can be taken from the US experience for further economic, financial and political integration in the EU over the medium term, including an investigation of the potential usefulness of the US experience in areas such as federalism and the design of integrated financial and capital markets. It is expected that the study would address areas such as institutional design and transition, financial market architecture and private and public risk-sharing, and the political economy specificities of the euro area, among others.
The selected tender should be familiar with US institutions and political processes, and have demonstrable experience and a strong reputation in investigating the transatlantic economy, for the purposes of carrying out a study.
The outcome of the analysis would feed into the Commission’s activities and deliberations towards further steps of economic, financial and political integration in the EU and, where relevant, various other key policy frameworks.
Estimated volume of work: 12 months
