- Directorate-General for Interpretation
A Portuguese national, Ana grew up in a multilingual environment. She studied at Université Paris I Panthéon-Sorbonne, where she obtained degrees in contemporary history and international relations. This background and interests led her very naturally, after a stint into the academic world, to the European Civil Service and to interpretation.
Since 2023, Ana is responsible for managing the interpretation services provided to the Commission, the Council and other EU Institutions. Before that, she served for many years as an interpreter, and later as Head of Sector. As Policy Assistant to the Director, she worked on the modernisation of interpretation services, strategic planning and organisational adaptation. In her various roles, she has contributed to shaping more efficient and sustainable interpretation services, in line with institutional priorities and technological developments.
Ana combines operational, managerial and policy expertise with a strong academic background. She brings together first-hand knowledge of users’ needs, familiarity with the evolution of interpretation demand, and understanding of how interpretation services adapt to changing environments.
