Ursula von der Leyen was the first woman to become President of the European Commission in 2019. She was elected for a second mandate by the European Parliament in July 2024, and will lead the Commission until the European elections in 2029.
Under the leadership of the President, the Commission's work is steered by a group of 27 Commissioners for the term 2024-2029. It decides the Commission's political and strategic direction.
