The Independent Ethical Committee

Role of the Committee

Former Commissioners have to follow integrity rules even after their mandate has ended. The Independent Ethical Committee advises the Commission whether former Commissioners’ planned post-mandate activities are compatible with the provisions of the Treaties.

The President may also consult the Independent Ethical Committee on any other ethical matters governed by the Code of Conduct for the Members of the European Commission.

Members of the Committee

The Members of the Committee serve for a 3-year mandate, renewable once.

The Members of the Committee appointed as of 20 July 2025 serve a 3- year term.

Annual reports

According to Article 13(4) of the Code of Conduct for the Members of the European Commission, the Commission publishes an annual report on how the  Code of Conduct is applied, including the work of the Independent Ethical Committee.
