Digital Strategy and Platforms of Culture Heritage (Mission 1, Component 3, Investment 1.1)

Italy's Recover and Resilience Plan includes actions to digitise the Italian cultural heritage, as to improve access to cultural resources and digital services.

The intervention will create a new national digital infrastructure to collect, integrate and retain digital resources, making them available for public use through dedicated platforms.

Interventions on “physical” heritage will be accompanied by the digitisation of museums, archives, libraries and cultural sites, to enable citizens to explore new forms of benefitting from the cultural heritage.

The investment is financed by the Recovery and Resilience Plan with EUR 500 million.

The National Plan for the Digitalisation of cultural heritage is part of this investment.

The National Plan for the Digitalisation of cultural heritage (NPD) is the result of an open-government process and constitutes the strategic vision with which the Ministry intends to promote and organize the digital transformation process in the 2022-2026 five-year period, addressing in the first instance museums, archives, libraries, central institutes and state cultural places that own, protect, manage and enhance cultural assets.
