First EU Workshop on Small Modular Reactors

The Commission is organising the first EU workshop on small modular reactors (SMRs) to engage interested EU industrial actors in joining forces to create European alternatives to other SMR models, and to consolidate the industrial value chain.

The workshop will be opened by the Director-General of DG Energy, Ditte Juul Jorgensen, and will include participants from the nuclear industry, nuclear regulators, public authorities, as well as public and private financing institutions. The overall objective is to discuss a common strategy on practical developments for the safe deployment of SMRs in the EU at the beginning of the next decade.

The event is a follow-up on both the EU-US high-level event on SMRs in October 2019, as well as EU industry’s call on the European Commission to organise such an a SMR event.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic it will be a virtual event, available only for the invited participants.
