Report
Students and the broader public had a chance to voice their opinions at a lunchtime Dialogue in University College Cork on Thursday 21 February 2019. Speakers were Head of the European Commission Representation in Ireland Gerry Kiely, and Lecturer, Department of Government & Politics, University College Cork, Dr. Mary C. Murphy. The discussion was moderated by European Movement Ireland Executive Director, Noelle O Connell.
Gerry Kiely underlined the importance of the European Parliament Elections on 24 May for the future of Europe.
He noted that: "Young people's record in voting in the European Parliament elections in Ireland is dismal. Everyone should have a say on who will influence their future by getting out and voting in May."
Mary C. Murphy noted that "Brexit has demonstrated a huge amount of support for Ireland from the EU".
European Movement Ireland Executive Director, Noelle O Connell said: "It is important that, as a country, we have dialogues such as these to foster the interaction between people in Ireland and the EU, particularly as the UK is due to leave the EU in just 36 days."
