Council of Europe estimates: approximately 40,000-70,000 Roma live in Portugal (0.52% of the population).

National Roma integration strategy

Portugal's national strategy for the integration of gypsy communities addresses the needs the Roma communities in four key areas - education, employment, healthcare and housing. It stresses the importance of an integrated approach in those four key areas, and of cooperation.

Assessment of Portugal’s strategy implementation

In spring 2014, the Commission adopted its assessment on the progress made in the implementation of the national Roma integration strategies in the four key areas of education, employment, healthcare and housing, as well as in the fight against discrimination and the use of funding.
