Denmark’s recovery and resilience – Supported projects: Nation-wide investment scheme

Disclaimer: This page exclusively serves information purposes and is not an exhaustive database of projects funded by the Recovery and Resilience Facility. Notably, the map provides a snapshot of projects based on the current status of their implementation. It does not reflect the distribution of the projects funded by the Recovery and Resilience Facility across the different areas within Denmark. The map will be regularly updated to include additional projects and information. The showcase of the projects in this page is without prejudice to any future assessment by the Commission in the context of the verification of the satisfactory fulfilment of milestones and targets pursuant to Regulation (EU) 2021/241 of the European Parliament and of the Council establishing the Recovery and Resilience Facility.

The measure references mentioned below are those contained in the Annex to the Council Implementing Decision approving the Danish Recovery and Resilience Plan and allow for easy identification of the measures

For more info on the projects, please contact the Commission’s representation in Denmark, Trine Koch Jakobsen, European Semester Officer, or Rikke Uldall, head of press team.

Climate technologies in agriculture

(reference C2.I5 in the Danish Recovery and Resilience Plan)

This investment, which is supported by the Recovery and Resilience Facility with  EUR 27 million (approximately DKK 201 million), allows Denmark to upscale the most promising technologies on the market in order to increase carbon storage in the agricultural sector. The pyrolytic method provides the agricultural sector with opportunities to eliminate bio waste stemming from production that would otherwise increase greenhouse gas emissions significantly. The scheme will thus provide technologies for the agricultural sector that allow the sector to continue its production while reducing related greenhouse gas emissions.

Car sharing and carpooling

(reference C5.I5 in the Danish Recovery and Resilience Plan)

With EUR 400,000 (approximately DKK 3 million), the Recovery and Resilience Facility supports thisinvestment, which consists in information and behavioural campaigns aimed at informing about the challenges related to ‘transport waste’ as well as highlighting the benefits for citizens, companies and society at large associated with car sharing and carpooling. Small films and information videos are made available to the public and shown in cinemas and other places. The campaign started with the car sharing theme in the autumn of 2022 and has been expanded to include the theme carpooling in early 2023. The films are available and shared on social media.

Carbon capture and storage or use of CO2

(reference C7.I1 in the Danish Recovery and Resilience Plan)

The investment “carbon capture and storage or use of CO2”, which the Recovery and Resilience Facility supports with   EUR  23.5  million (approximately DKK 175 million), is the first of the four missions of the research programme to accelerate the development of climate-friendly technology solutions. The objectives of the partnerships under this mission shall be to develop cost-effective CO2 capture solutions from the largest emitters or from the atmosphere and store carbon or use it in new climate neutral energy sources. To achieve these objectives, the partnerships shall create economic incentives to use carbon capture and storage or use of CO2 and strengthen the research in the geological preconditions for storing CO2 in Denmark, developing the material to capture carbon, and developing methods of analysis that may monitor and prevent leakage. In its review of applications for this mission, Innovation Fund Denmark is expected to take into account the relation with the development and demonstration project of CO2 storage sites in depleted oil and gas fields in the Danish sector of North Sea that are initiated in component 2.3 on “Energy efficiency, green heating and Carbon Capture and Storage”, to avoid any overlaps. The mission has organised a conference and so far launched two calls for dedicated projects. The first call lead to about 20 projects being selected under one of five possible workstreams. A second call has been lauched with a deadline of 21 March 2023. The overall final deadline for project activities are mid-2027.

Green fuels for transport and industry

(reference C7.I2 in the Danish Recovery and Resilience Plan)

With an allocation of EUR  23.5  million (approximately DKK 175 million) from the Recovery and Resilience Facility, the investment “green fuels for transport and industry” is the second of the four missions of the research programme to accelerate the development of climate-friendly technology solutions. The objective of this mission shall be to develop new solutions to create new green fuels, including green hydrogen, and demonstrate how Power-to-X systems may be integrated in the overall energy system. Investing in targeted research, development and demonstration efforts to bring currently costly green fuels to a level of technological maturity is expected to facilitate commercial use and deployment of such technologies at a larger scale. The mission has jointly with the CCUS mission organised a conference that took place in January 2023. A first call for projects has brought about 9 projects under three workstreams in total. A second call will be published shortly. The overall deadline for the mission is mid-2026.

Climate- and environment friendly agriculture and food production

(reference C7.I3 in the Danish Recovery and Resilience Plan)

The investment “climate- and environment friendly agriculture and food production” is the third of the four missions of the research programme to accelerate the development of climate-friendly technology solutions. The objective of this mission shall be to increase investments in new technology to further push the boundaries of reducing emissions in the agriculture and food sectors, while maintaining a sustainable production and earnings. The type of activities that shall be funded shall include research and innovation in new breeding techniques, development of precision agriculture and the establishment of new cultivation and fertilisation systems that are more efficient. The mission is open to include new members, who pay an annual membership fee that depends on the size of the organisation. A first call launched by the mission has brought about 11 dedicated projects. A second call is underway. The Recovery and Resilience Facility supports this investment with EUR  23.5  million (approximately DKK 175 million).
