Description

Every year, the European Commission draws up an annual report on its monitoring of the application of EU law in response to requests from the European Parliament and the EU countries.

In 2014, the Commission launched 893 new procedures by sending a letter of formal notice. The Commission also sent 256 reasoned
opinions to EU countries during 2014. At the end of 2014, 1,347 infringement cases remained open. In addition, there was a significant
increase in new late transposition infringement cases in 2014 (585) compared with the previous year - 2013 (478).
