The investment, which is supported by the Recovery and Resilience facility with EUR 27 million (approximately DKK 201 million), aims to reduce the emissions caused by domestic ferries in Denmark which are essential for the cohesion of the country.

On the basis of a study from 2021 that looked into approximately 50 routes that are served by ferries in Denmark, a subsidy scheme was put in place to support the purchase of zero or low emission ferries or retrofitting of existing ferries.

The subsidy shall enable a green transition of 15 ferries by the end of 2025.
