Project

Enhance water security for Nicosia and Larnaca regions

The objective of the measure is to increase the water adequacy for the needs of the Nicosia and Larnaca Water Boards.

The measure foresees the construction of:

  • three new generation Glass Lined Steel (GLS) water reservoirs of 26 000 m3 in total in Nicosia Region. The three new generation Glass Lined Steel (GLS) water reservoirs will help Nicosia Water Board to have adequate water capacity to supply its customers without interruption (for 24hr) in case of temporary closure to the network. Concerning the construction of two of the new generation Glass Lined Steel (GLS) water reservoirs in Nicosia Region, accounting for a total capacity of 16 000 m3 in total, the contract has been signed in August 2022 and the completion of works is expected by mid 2024.
  • a 10 000 m3 water reservoir at Klavdia, Larnaca, as well as the installation of mechanical equipment and landscaping of the surrounding area. The new reservoir will allow the Larnaca Water Board to ensure continuous supply to its customers for 24 hours in the case of interruption to supply. The relevant contract of works has been signed in March 2022 and the completion of works is expected by March 2024.

The Recovery and Resilience Facility provides funding of EUR 6.0 million for the four reservoirs.
