Renovation of Lamego Museum

One of the main goals is to adapt the installations of the Lamego Museum to the new environmental standards. This entails measures such as the reduction in primary energy consumption of buildings, together with the intervention in historical green parks with unique flora and fauna to promote climate change adaptation and mitigation through an efficient reuse of water for irrigation. Lamego Museum, which closed to the public at the end of 2021 for a first round of works . Works financed under the Recovery and Resilience Facility in the Lamego Museum will include the installation of a Wi-Fi network and the renovation of its infrastructure, such as the rehabilitation of roofs and facades, installation of an air conditioning system and the review of electrical equipment, telecommunications and security, outdoor arrangements and effective improvement of accessibility conditions of all sites.

Works will start in 2023 and will cost more than EUR 1.2 million.

Renovation of the National Museum of Antique Art

One of the other museums to receive support, for instance, is the National Museum of Antique Art in Lisbon, where for EUR 4.2 million, the building’s north façade will be conserved, part of the roof will be refurbished and a long-closed chapel (Capela das Albertas) will be restored. Works are ongoing at the National Archaeological Museum, which will receive a complete refurbishment throughout the building for EUR 25 million.The monasteries of Batalha and Alcobaça will also be renovated.

Rehabilitation of the Camões Theatre

The Rehabilitation of the Camões Theatre will open a a new, final chapter in the history of this emblematic cultural establishment.

The Camões Teatro, the headquarters of the Companhia Nacional de Bailado, the National Ballet Company of Portugal, closes to the public in July 2023 and will reopen in April 2024 after rehabilitation works. The works will have an overall investment of EUR 5.8 million.

The intervention includes, among others, the general upgrading of the roof and facades, the installation of a ramp for the evacuation of people with restricted mobility, the construction of a physical recovery room for dancers.
