Biography

Jón R. Blöndal is Head of Public Management and Budgeting Division, Public Governance Directorate, Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD).

He leads a team of expert practitioners to assist countries improve their public sector’s performance. Guided by good governance principles and sustainable fiscal objectives, the Division assists countries achieve policy goals through arrangements that allocate budgets to priority areas.  It supports the OECD Committee of Senior Budget Officials (SBO) and the OECD Paris Collaborative on Green Budgeting.

Mr. Blöndal is Co-chair of the Public Interest Committee, the oversight body for the International Public Sector Accounting Standards Board (IPSASB).

He is Editor-in-Chief of the quarterly OECD Journal on Budgeting.

In 2013, Mr. Blöndal was presented with the Award for Lifetime Professional Achievement by the American Society for Public Administration and the Association for Budgeting and Financial Management.

Prior to joining the OECD in 1995, Mr. Blöndal held a number of positions in the Ministry of Finance and Office of the Prime Minister in Iceland.
