President von der Leyen reaffirms solidarity with Ukraine at the European Political Community Summit in Granada

Ursula von der Leyen

Commission President Ursula von der Leyen attended the third European Political Community meeting in Granada, Spain, where she reiterated that the Community stands firmly behind Ukraine and will continue to do so. This serves as a clear message to Putin – that his aggression against a sovereign Ukraine will not be tolerated.

In her speech, the President highlighted Europe’s joint efforts in the face of the energy crisis, having bought, stored and saved energy together. She also called for this success story to be replicated in other fields, such as raw materials and clean hydrogen.

The third meeting of the European Political Community brought together leaders from around 50 European countries. They exchanged views on multilateralism and how the war in Ukraine is affecting the international order. They sent a clear message of unity in support of Ukraine and against Russia at the Summit, which Ukraine’s President Zelenskyy also attended. In addition, the leaders discussed energy sovereignty, artificial intelligence and how to make Europe more resilient, prosperous, and geostrategic.
