EU-U.S. announcement on the resumption of negotiations on an EU-U.S. agreement to facilitate access to electronic evidence in criminal investigations

The U.S. Department of Justice and the European Commission today announced the resumption of negotiations on an EU-U.S. agreement to facilitate access to electronic evidence in criminal investigations. Officials from the U.S. Department of Justice, the U.S. Department of State and the European Commission plan to meet in Stockholm, Sweden, on March 15 and 16, 2023, prior to the EU-U.S. Justice and Home Affairs Senior Officials Meeting taking place in Stockholm on March 16 and 17. Negotiations had started in September 2019 but were paused while the European Union finalized the EU e-evidence legislation.
