Controlled vocabularies organise information and make it possible to catalogue, curate, retrieve and aggregate information across the European institutions.
The Digital Europa Thesaurus (DET) is the controlled vocabulary that should be used across websites of the European Commission to describe the main subject matter of content, by tagging it with its terms. DG Communication is the creator and owner of the DET.
In addition to the Digital Europa Thesaurus, the Publications Office hosts and manages a number of controlled vocabularies that are critical to use when describing aspects of content other than the main subject matter.
