In 2017, the Commission launched 716 infringement cases with highest number in Environment (173), Mobility and Transport (155) and Financial stability, financial services and Capital Markets Union (84). At the end of 2017, 1 559 infringement procedures remained open. The number of new late-transposition infringement cases decreased sharply in 2017 (558) compared to 2016 (845).
