The Superbonus provides tax deductions for expenses related to energy and seismic renovation of residential buildings. The measure stimulates economic and jobs growth while reducing energy consumption and favouring the green transition. Financed interventions include external insulation, efficient window frames, replacement of heating and air conditioning systems and installation of renewable energy generation systems. Support under the Superbonus requires a certified improvement of energy efficiency of at least two energy classes. The Recovery and Resilience Plan provides financing for a total of EUR 13.95 billion, in addition to national resources.

The investment is expected to enable the renovation of more than 100,000 buildings, with a total upgraded area of more than 36 million square metres (of which 3.8 million are earthquake-proof). The expected energy saving is about 191 Ktoe/year with a reduction in greenhouse gas emissions of about 667 Kton CO2/year.

Hundreds of interventions financed by the Superbonus have already been completed. By 2023, energy requalification of buildings for at least 12 million square metres and anti-seismic work on at least 1.4 million square metres will have been finalised. By 31 December 2025, the objective is to ensure the energy requalification of buildings for at least 32 million square metres and anti-seismic work on at least 3.8 million square metres by December 2025.
