As part of the National Public Health Prevention Program “Spiros Doxiadis” the project Combating  Childhood Obesity is an integrated program that includes targeted interventions at the primary, secondary, and tertiary prevention levels, both at home and in schools, health services, and the community.

It aims to address all children aged 0-17 years and their families. Through a holistic approach and specially designed tools, a multilevel program will be developed to change the environment contributing to the onset of obesity.

Reforms are envisioned to promote a healthy lifestyle for children, particularly by improving access to nutritious food in school canteens and integrating nutrition and physical activity education programs into schools. Early detection of children facing overweight and obesity will be facilitated through digital applications, providing immediate and free holistic support from experts. Additionally, the integration of health data from pediatricians, free sessions with nutritionists and pediatricians, and psychological support will be provided. Children with established diseases (e.g., diabetes, hypertension) due to overweight/obesity will be referred to specialized pediatric units.

Raising awareness and changing attitudes and perceptions will be achieved through an ongoing information and awareness campaign at the local and national levels.
