The National Institute of Virology and Bacteriology is making discoveries in the field of infectious diseases that will have a positive impact on human health.
Our efforts are focused on developing safe and effective treatments for viruses and bacteria, and on creating an environment that fosters the discovery and development of drugs against viruses and bacteria with pandemic potential.
The development of new drugs requires a fundamental understanding of the mechanisms that allow pathogens to infect cells and cause disease.

Many of these mechanisms are still poorly understood.
Therefore, our work involves combining basic and clinical research on viruses and pathogenic bacteria to better understand their interactions with the human body, how they escape the immune system and how they resist treatment.

NIVB focuses on cutting-edge research in 3 key areas:

  1. the interactions between pathogens and hosts.
  2. strengthening immunity against viruses and bacteria.
  3. developing new therapies against viral and bacterial infections.
