Construction of a Child Centre in the Agios Athanasios Municipality

The objective of the project is to offer quality childcare services and facilitate the participation and re-entering of workers with caring responsibilities, mostly women, in the labour market, thereby promoting gender equality. It further aims at enhancing the social inclusion of children from disadvantaged and/or migrant background.  

The investment comprises of the construction of a Child Care Centre in the Agios Athanasios Municipality which focuses on providing contemporary services for children between the ages of 2 and 6, the construction of the New Public and Community Kindergarten and Nursery School in the Agia Napa Municipality which focuses on families with infants and toddlers from six months old to preschool age, the construction of a Child Care Centre in the Paralimni Municipality which aims to meet the growing needs of the community for childcare services and to address the impact of the pandemic on the labour force which is mostly employed in the tourism industry and the transformation of the old primary school into a Multipurpose Centre with a kindergarten, an employment centre for the elderly and a multipurpose room, aiming to enhance social cohesion in the Yermasoyia Municipality. 

The Recovery and Resilience Facility provides funding of EUR 5.5 million for the four Child Centres and in particular EUR 1.1 million for the construction of the Child Centre in the Agios Athanasios Municipality.  

The construction of the Child Care Centre in the Municipality of Agios Athanasios has been completed and is in operation as of September 5, 2022. Current attendance is 76 children.  

The construction of the other three Child Centres will be completed by December 2024.
