This investment aims at anchoring Austria’s industry to the emerging European renewable hydrogen value chain.

Funding by the Recovery and Resilience Facility (EUR 125 million) will be used to promote integrated projects along the hydrogen value chain, especially covering hydrogen production, storage and applications. On 15 July and 21 September 2022, respectively, the European Commission approved state aid support for the IPCEI Hydrogen (Hy2Tech and Hy2Use), involving also six companies from Austria (AVL, Borealis, Christof Industries, Robert Bosch, Plastic Omnium NEW and Verbund). Austrian Climate Minister Leonore Gewessler praised Commission’s swift approval of the projects, stating that the two Austrian projects will make a key contribution to achieve the goals of the Austrian Hydrogen Strategy.

All projects supported by the scheme are expected to be completed by August 2026.
