Building on the existing work in the interest of more effective institutions, stronger governance frameworks and efficient public administrations The European Commission (DG REFORM) and the IMF’s Fiscal Affairs Department are continuing their partnership to support EU member states to build more effective institutions, stronger governance frameworks and efficient public administrations. Through the EU’s Structural Reform Support Programme (SRSP) , the IMF will provide tailor-made Technical Assistance (TA) to selected EU member states, at their request, in areas as diverse as taxation of high wealth individuals, aligning the state budget with the sustainable development goals, and tax expenditure reviews. Juan Toro, Deputy Director of the Fiscal Affairs Department noted that “these TA projects focus on areas where there is a strong demand, and where the IMF can bring cutting-edge and innovative approaches to bear.” Mario Nava, Director General of DG REFORM stated that “the partnership with the Fiscal Affairs Department of the IMF is very important given its longstanding expertise in this area. DG REFORM welcomes the opportunity of working together to facilitate reforms in the important policy areas of tax policy and fiscal governance.
